Hi There,
Welcome to our month of June NDP newsletter.
Local news:
1. The Cornwall and District Labour Council hosted a public meeting on May 1st at the Legion. The guest speakers were Chandra Pasma the NDP MPP for Ottawa-West Nepean, Gillian Axten the OPSEU Chief Steward at St. Lawrence College representing academic staff, and Adrienne McEwan, president of the Teacher Bargaining Unit Executive of the OSSTF District 26 (Upper Canada) representing permanent contract teachers.
This interesting discussion concerned the provincial government’s deliberate underfunding of Ontario public education and how cuts directly affect the curriculum and overall educational experience for Ontario school and college students. 2. The SDSG/Cornwall chapter of the Ontario Health Coalition staged a rally on May 30th in front of Nolan Quinn’s office, urging the Ontario Government to stop the privatization of healthcare and restore public healthcare services. Approximately 40 people attended the event, showing strong community support for the cause. This gathering was part of a province-wide initiative, with similar demonstrations occurring both last week and today across Ontario.

Oshawa MPP wants to make Ontario homes EV-ready with new legislation
QUEEN’S PARK – MPP Jennifer French (Oshawa), Official Opposition NDP Critic for Infrastructure, Transportation & Highways, has introduced the EV-Ready Homes Act (Bill 199) that would ensure new homes are ready for electric vehicles by requiring builders to install rough-ins for chargers.
“Electric vehicles are the future, but we are not yet EV-ready,” said French. “New homes should be built with the future in mind. Installing home charging infrastructure can be expensive – but it’s far more cost-effective when it is already roughed-in.”
